Sometimes we pack too little and sometimes we pack too much, especially if we start packing at the last minute. I would like to share my top 3 packing tips as a guideline you can follow to make life convenient in the airport and the hotel room when you’re living out of a suitcase.

Give each activity a kit

To make sure that you pack more thoroughly, consider packing according to each activity and then packing each activity kit into your big suitcase. If you know you’ll be swimming on your trip, pack all the items that are needed when swimming into one kit bag.

Reality Check

It’s easy to come across items that you have not seen or worn in a while whilst pulling out or packing your old travel suitcases. The truth is our travel routine tends to mirror our home routines – so rather be safe by packing items you use or wear often. You don’t want to be on holiday when you put on a dress that you have not worn in ages, only to find out that you had cut the straps off to use in some project you took on ages ago.

The 1-2-3-4-5-6 Rule

This method works great if you are packing for a week-long trip and if you are not sure how much to pack. This list can be modified to suit your dress style. Here is an example of how I incorporated the 1-2-3-4-5-6 Rule for my last trip. I packed

  • 1 hat
  • 2 pairs of shoes
  • 3 pairs of pants or skirts
  • 4 shirts
  • 5 pairs of socks
  • 6 sets of underwear
